Installing Anti Virus on your personal PC/Laptop and Setting up Windows Update

 

It is absolutely imperative that you have a current and good antivirus software running on your personal laptop/Pc at all times and has your windows PC updated with all the latest windows updates. Without this if you connect your PC to the network you are asking for trouble, it could lead to data loss, connectivity problems etc..

 

  1. Make sure you either have a good anti virus (you purchased) or download from the UH IT site http://www.uh.edu/infotech , check the previous figure for the software link, click on it and follow the anti-virus link. When you are faced with the following page, download the appropriate version to your pc and install it. It is also important that after you install it you update your antivirus signatures immediately like so, Right click on the shield icon on your task bar and select “update now” till you get the message that your anti virus files are up-to-date.

 

 

In future your anti-virus will automatically update itself on a regular schedule whenever you get on the internet.

 

  1. Windows update is another key step to be followed to make sure your windows pc remains up-to-date with the latest security patches etc. To do windows update, click on start and select “Windows update”

 

 

You will be taken to the Microsoft windows update site, select the express install and follow the on-screen instructions and make sure you select and install all “critical updates”
