Setting up your own website
All Geosciences
have the facility to setup a personal web-site, in addition to their page on
VNET (http://vnet.uh.edu). Their personal
web-site is part of their PC account. To setup your personal web-site
- Login to a PC on campus or if you are
from home/off campus, access your PC account (you may want to read
accessing your PC account from an off campus location - How do I access my
files on the PC network from home, from a UNIX network or from another PC
(not in the computer lab)? )
- Create a directory called “html” on
your “Z:” folder (the name ‘html’ is important)
- That’s it!! Now you can fill this
directory with whatever you want (you may want to put the first page as
index.htm)
- You web-address is
http://www.geosc.uh.edu/~your-pc-username
- The web-server can run PHP, perl scripts etc for those who want this kind of
stuff.
