Running PETRA
PETRA
software is available on all the PCs in the Computer Lab. To use PETRA
- Login
to a Windows Workstation in the computer Lab
- Make a
folder called “petra” on your Z:\, You do
this by opening “My Computer” and double clicking the Z:\ and creating a
folder there. This is where you will store all your PETRA related projects.
- Then Open
up an explorer window and in the address section key in \\garnet.geosc.uh.edu\petrasrv,
and right click the file which says “geoplus1
PETRA HIS Inc.” and say create shortcut. You will be prompted that the
shortcut cannot be created in that folder but only on the desktop, say “yes”.
The display below demonstrates this process.

- Once
that is done you will see an Icon on your desktop which says “Shortcut to
geoplus1”, before you double click this to launch it, you may want to copy
the example projects to your Z:\Petra folder. You can do this by going to
the window where you have the “\\garnet.geosc.uh.edu\petrasrv”
open and copy the file “Tutorial.zip” from the Projects folder to your Z:\Petra
folder. Like so,

- Then double click this file to
expand it into the Z:\petra folder, you will end up with a “Tutorial”
folder.
- After
this you can launch PETRA
by double clicking the icon on your desktop. You will get the following
screen

- Select
“Connect to an existing Shared Project” and navigate to Z:\Petra\Tutorial
folder and click “Next”
- This step is important
: When PETRA
asks you to “Personal Parameters Folder”, make sure you select the “Z:\Petra\Tutorial\Params”
folder, like so.

- Once
this is done your final screen should like below, and then click finish. Petra will launch
with the Tutorial project. Make sure you create all your projects in the
Z:\petra folder ONLY.
