Here is a list of all available Paradigm Geo Software we have and where it is available – All of the following software are available on Geossun1.Geosc.uh.edu (SUN Server), Margaret.geosc.uh.edu (Beowulf Cluster) and Dix.agl.uh.edu (Linux Workstation). Now because the software is available on these systems does not mean it can be used. There are various restrictions that prevent us from using them on all platforms. If you need to use them specifically on a certain platform, get in touch with the systems manager to get the details of how. Also a “yes” does not mean it may be usable, only basic testing has been done. To be sure, fire it up and test it on your platform of choice, however, focus/geodepth/startimagic has been well tested on geossun1. Voxelgeo has been well tested on dix. Parallel runs of focus should be done on Margaret.

Note:

·        Using Focus has been well documented here so this shows how to launch the other Paradigm software.

·        Always ask the system admin first if you have a question about where to store your project data.

·        Generally all FOCUS and other Paradigm Geo data is stored in the /pgfs filesystem – so store it there!!

To use any of the other software, launch the Paradigm Product Manager (PPM), so login to one of the above systems and launch the software by keying in the command – “PPM &”

Launching the Paradigm Suite of Software

  1. An account on the AGL cluster systems will let you into dix.agl.uh.edu. So make sure you first ask the systems admin for this account before you attempt to use the software.
  2. After you get the account, use a SUN workstation or thinanywhere to login to dix.agl.uh.edu (more help logging in through a sun workstation is available here and thinanywhere is available here).
  3. After you successfully login to dix.agl.uh.edu (make sure you have set the DISPLAY back etc, read the thinanywhere help for more on that), you are ready to use the voxelgeo or stratimagic or other software.
  4. From dix run the command to start the Paradigm Product Manager (PPM), so run the command “PPM &”, the snapshot below describes it.

NOTE: The procedure is similar from this point onwards if you are directly logging onto the system from the console instead of through thinanywhere or a SUN workstation. Just open up a window on the console and key in “PPM &” to bring up the Paradigm Product Manager and select the appropriate software to use.

  1. Once PPM starts up you will see a window similar to one below,

  1. You will notice that only the products for which we have licenses are available, the other stuff is grayed out. For example, FOCUS, Geodepth is available but Surveyor is grayed out.
  2. Now for example you want to start “Stratimagic”, what you would do is click on “Stratimagic” on the left and you will see if there are any add-ons (which we have license for) and in this case none pop up in the “Add-Ons” window, then click on the little “>” button to send the Startimagic application to the right column and then click on “Start Session” to fire up “Stratimagic”, here is a snapshot

  1. Now you could end up clicking on multiple applications and sending them to the right side, and then if you click start session, this will launch all the applications in the right part, here is an example of both stratimagic and voxelgeo on the right side.

  1. If this happens just click on the “<” button and remove the application you don’t want, unless you were meaning to start up both of these applications.
  2. Here is a snapshot with stratimagic application launched.

  1. Now a few other points, through PPM you can also find out the license information, so the next time you find you don’t have a license available for your favorite application, track down the person who is using it and see if you get him/her to stop using it. You can view the license status by going to View, License information

  1.  This brings up the license information for all the Paradigm products, click on a product to see who is currently using it, like so

As you can see, clicking on FOCUS shows me that at this moment users, saljxf and salcxg are using it.
